What I teach

Voice

Singing should feel good. That’s why we do it. I love to take singing down to a very specific technical focus, and remove any roadblocks that are getting in the way of you enjoying your unique voice

  • Preparatory to ARCT levels of RCM

  • Pop, contemporary, classical and musical theatre style singing

  • Proper vocal technique, musicality and performance

Piano

Piano is an amazing foundation for music of any kind. Whether you are playing solo piano, or even accompanying yourself, a playing technique that makes sense will always benefit you as a musician

  • Preparatory to Level 9 RCM

  • Contemporary and Classical styles

  • Piano artistry, accompaniment, and performance

Music Theory

Music theory gives you the big picture behind music. Not just creating and playing it, but understanding how and why certain sounds can evoke different feelings and emotions.

  • Levels 1-8 RCM Theory

  • Sight reading and ear training

  • Basic chord function and harmony for songwriters

Background and Teaching Philosophy

My musical journey began through the Royal Conservatory of Music. Learning piano, voice and theory simultaneously. I quickly began performing and composing to share and deepen my understanding and love of music. During my career I have worked as a music director, live accompanist, studio accompanist, chamber harpsichordist, choral singer, solo singer, musical theater singer, and of course teacher. I have won several awards and scholarships, most notably the two-time recipient of the Sterling Beckwith award, for exceptional promise and ability in performance, superior musicianship and breadth of cultural and academic interests.

As a teacher, I believe that music is meant to be shared. With yourself, your friend, or the world, we all need music. I teach my students to find the joy and freedom of expression that comes with a solid technique and understanding of music, that will allow them to share their unique sound with ease and enjoyment.
